1000 Bornes AKA "1000 Bornes: Coups-Fourres et Courses Folles" is a France exclusive game for the Nintendo DS which is based on a popular board game in France under the same name although the board game version is more well known under the name "Mille Bornes". The game on the DS follows the same rules of the board game and the art style of the board game at the time of the games release. This game was officially licensed by the owners of the Mille Bornes board game DUJARDIN.
Gameplay[]
Gameplay Modes[]
There are 2 modes built into this game. You can also play with up to 6 people multiplayer with wireless or Wi-Fi play.
Classic Mode[]
Follows classic rules of the original board game.
Special Mode[]
Plays the same as classic mode but with extra minigames for when certain cards are played which have stylus control to complete and move onto the next turn.
Overall Gameplay[]
The rules and gameplay are simple so it can be played by young and old family members and the DS game is no different, even including hints to help you as you play.
The end goal of the game is to reach 1000 miles in your car before your opponent. You can have 1 person per car or 2 people per car for team vs team play. Both sides start with a few random cards in your deck and then there is a pile of random cards between you. Each turn you can take 1 card from the pile or choose to play a card from your deck (you can keep up to 7 cards at a time) or throw away a card in your deck. Once you take a card from the pile or throw away a card the turn ends and you can't play any other cards. There are several types of card (these are my own names for these)...
Miles Cards[]
These are the most basic cards in the game. They display different numbers which represent how many miles you can move with your car when you play the card. As long as you have a green traffic light card and you don't play a miles card above the speed limit if you have a speed limit hazard card; then you can move your car the number of miles shown on the card towards the goal if you play the card on that turn. If you are near the end of the road you have to have the exact amount of miles on the card left on the road before you can play it to win the game. Once you play a miles card the turn is over and you can't play another card.
Traffic Light Cards[]
The green traffic light card is very important in this game. The traffic light must be green for you to use a miles card to move your car. If the traffic light is red due to a hazard card or you don't have a green traffic light card then you can't move your car even with a miles card. Green traffic light cards last indefinitely until they are effected by another card. If you get hit by a hazard card, you will lose your traffic card and you will have to find another one to move again.
Hazard Cards[]
These are a range of cards which are made to hinder you or your opponent during the game and different types have different effects. You can easily tell a hazard card from a fix card due to them often being mostly red in colour. Using a fix card against a hazard card takes a turn so you can't move or place a hazard on your opponent until the next turn. However, hazard cards are used before moving with miles cards so they can be played on the same turn as a miles card.
Popped Tire Hazard Card[]
This card if played on you will stop your car from moving due to popping your cars tire. You can only move once you find a replacement tire fix card to counteract it. You can either be effected by this card by your opponent or play it from your deck on your opponent.
Red Traffic Light Hazard Card[]
This card if played on you will stop your car from moving until you find a green traffic light card to replace it. You can either be effected by this card by your opponent or play it from your deck on your opponent.
Speed Limit Hazard Card[]
This card will limit the amount of miles you can travel with a miles card if played on you. If effected by this card you can't pick a miles card with a number that exceeds the number shown on the speed limit hazard card. You will need a speed limit fix card to counteract it and stop its effect.
Broken Down Hazard Card[]
This card will stop you from moving until you find a repair fix card.
Fixing Cards[]
These cards will fix problems caused by hazard cards but they can only be used once. There are different types of fixing cards which fix different types of hazard. Each hazard has a corresponding fix card. You can only move the turn after fixing a hazard card. You can tell a fix card from a hazard card easily since most are mostly green in colour.
Replacement Tire Fix Card[]
This card will counteract a popped tire hazard card and allow you to move again. You can only move the turn after playing the card.
Speed Limit Fix Card[]
This card will counteract a speed limit hazard card and will allow you to move as many miles as you want again. You can only move the turn after playing the card.
Repair Fix Card[]
This card will counteract a broken down hazard card and allow you to move again. You can only move the turn after playing the card.
Super Fixing Cards[]
Super fixing cards are a rarer special card that if found can be played from your deck to give you a permanent boost for that game. Each super fixing card corresponds to a specific hazard card. If you have a super fixing card which corresponds to a hazard card played on you then the hazard card will not effect you at all. These can be used over and over so they will permanently leave you immune to the effects of the type of hazard the card reacts to. You can also own more than one of these cards at once and they don't count as part of your main card deck so they don't take up a card slot.

Reception[]
Public reception seems mixed with Jeux Video giving it a public rating of 12.1/20 but LaunchBox shows a great 4.38/5 stars public rating. Although there isn't many websites to go off.
Critics have a lower view with an average rating being common. Jeux Videos review gave it a 10/20 stating "It's not enough to take a good board game and adapt it to DS to get a good video game. This adaptation of 1000 Terminals is far from being as exciting as the original game, but it still retains a bit of its charm. Uninteresting in solitary, only those who intend to race quietly with their friends will find pleasure in playing this adaptation." (Google Translated)
