We’ve sold over 100 books about Bibi in February only. Up until yesterday, on Valentine’s Day. Fits nicely since it’s a love book.
“But what? It’s not that at all,” my youngest child retorted.
“Oh yes it is,” I replied, crossing my arms just like a grumpy teenager.
Of course it is. It is the ultimate love story between friends and two sisters. Care and wanting the best for someone else are precisely what this book is about. Going out without a hint of hesitation to search for a lost friend, planning a tremendously festive surprise solely for the simple and unselfish reason of wanting to make someone else happy. If that’s not love, then what is?
Moreover, it’s peppered with the language of love (which, of course, is French, what else!?). There are so many French pastries, je t’aime, oui and bonjours on the pages that it would be a big little lie to say that this isn’t a love story of the highest caliber.
Have you jumped on the trend of making paper flowers yet? Look, it’s easily addictive and requires a bit of effort in terms of time. Otherwise, it’s 100% satisfying and yields a very nice result. Anyone can do it!
There’s a lot you can discuss with your child after reading.
So here’s a classic set of book club questions:
- Why do you think Betty tricks her sister?
- Can people feel differently when they’re surprised?
- What’s the most fun thing about having a birthday?
- Is there anything that feels difficult about having a birthday?
- What do you think Mr. Fox does for a living?
- Was there any word in the text that you didn’t understand?”
