The team behind West Kendall favorite Finka Table & Tap have debuted their latest eatery, Amelia’s 1931, just about five blocks down from their original restaurant at 13601 SW 26 Street.

The restaurant, which is self-described as “a cozy Cuban diner,” serves twists on classic Cuban dishes and reinvented versions of Finka Table & Tap’s “crowd favorites” such as the Peruvian arroz con pollo fritters with huacatay mayo and the smoked brisket with crispy onions, Asian slaw and huacatay mustard in the form of a sandwich. New to Amelia’s menu dishes are items like General Tsao Alligator Fried Rice, Yuca Tots with pulled pork, Malanga Tots with vaca frita, Korean Style Fritas made with shoestring fries, huacatay and Korean barbecue mayo, along with Asian steamed buns.

The restaurant is named after owner Eileen Andrade’s late grandmother, Amelia Garcia, who was born in 1931, and married to Raul Garcia, the founder of legendary Islas Canarias Restaurant.

“My grandmother, Amelia, was known for her counter service and delicious cafecitos at my grandfather’s restaurants in Cuba and Miami,” says Andrade.

Keeping with counter service inspiration, the menu features a full coffee bar, croquetas by — of course — Islas Canarias, along with a variety of craft beers and wines.

The restaurant is now open Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
