- "I'm heading to Radcliffe's."
"It seems you're spending all your time there lately." - ―Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons[src]
Radcliffe Residence is the home and laboratory of Doctor Holden Radcliffe, where he lives with his personal robotic assistant Aida.
History[]
Creation of Aida[]
- "Well, you've already met Aida, digital personal assistant, as a voice on the computer. So, uh, I built her a body."
"Yeah, a naked body!" - ―Holden Radcliffe and Leo Fitz[src]
After being rescued from Hive, Holden Radcliffe began to work as a S.H.I.E.L.D. consultant. He secretly reactivated the Life-Model Decoy Program and worked on it from his Residence to transfer the data of his digital assistant Aida into an android body.[1]
Leo Fitz became good friends with Radcliffe and used to go to the Radcliffe Residence to watch soccer games. One day, Fitz accidentally met Aida in the Residence. Aida's existence heavily worried Fitz but he eventually agreed to not disclose that to his S.H.I.E.L.D. colleagues. While not in use, Aida would remain hidden behind a secret bookshelf in the Residence.[2]
Near-Death Experience[]
- "You're saying I can't leave."
"Soon. We're close. But Aida will be on hand to help with further testing and to take care of your needs."
"You can trust me with your life, Agent May." - ―Melinda May, Holden Radcliffe and Aida[src]
When Melinda May got infected by Lucy Bauer and the CDC could not help her, Jemma Simmons had May transported to the Radcliffe Residence to try to save her. Simmons and Radcliffe figured out that May was literally dying out of terror and Radcliffe suggested shutting her brain down before reactivating it, which basically meant killing May and reviving her. They initiated the procedure, but the power went out due to the Blackout Attack orchestrated by the Watchdogs, keeping them from reanimating May. Therefore, Radcliffe reclaimed Aida's source of power and used it to power the defibrillators, successfully reviving May.[3]
Despite her reluctance, May was kept at the Radcliffe Residence for a few days in order to undergo some tests to check she was fine and would not suffer side effects from her near-death experience. Leo Fitz visited her and was horrified to see that Aida was looking after May, but Holden Radcliffe reassured him that May did not notice she was speaking to an android. Later, May was allowed to leave the Residence. She was picked up by Phil Coulson and Jemma Simmons, and the latter figured out Aida's true nature.[4]
After rescuing Coulson and Fitz from being absorbed into the Hell Dimension, Aida used the Laser-Coupling Gloves to create a Quantum Brain, containing May's brain data scanned during her NDE.[5]
Capture of Melinda May[]
- "My apologies, Agent May. I'll have you cleaned up in no time."
- ―Aida to Melinda May[src]
As S.H.I.E.L.D. prepared to fight Eli Morrow, Jeffrey Mace sends Melinda May to the Radcliffe Residence to enlist Aida's help. However, Aida assaulted and knocked May out before hiding her in a closet and replacing her with an LMD. After the Battle at the Chinatown Crew Headquarters, Mace sent Nathan B. Nathanson to bring all of Holden Radcliffe's research to the Playground, but Nathanson found May's body before being murdered by Aida.[6]
Aida's Rebellion[]
- "I know what you're doing, Doctor. You came here to end my life."
- ―Aida to Holden Radcliffe[src]
Fearing that Aida could have been corrupted after reading the Darkhold, Jeffrey Mace and Phil Coulson order Leo Fitz and Holden Radcliffe to erase her memory. Fitz and Radcliffe take to S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to the Radcliffe Residence, but Aida figures out their intent and violently assaults them before running away. In shock, Fitz discovers Nathan B. Nathanson's body before leaving the Residence.
After Aida fails to reclaim the Darkhold from S.H.I.E.L.D., Radcliffe returns to the Residence and discusses the issue with another copy of Aida, as he was the one who engineered the whole May's kidnapping and the android rebellion to seize the Darkhold for himself.[7]
May's Near-Escape[]
- "I knew it wasn't real."
- ―Melinda May[src]
Leo Fitz visits Holden Radcliffe and advises him to stay away from S.H.I.E.L.D. for some time. After Fitz leaves, Radcliffe and Aida discuss their plan and notice that Melinda May seems to fight against the relaxing simulation they put her in. May eventually wakes up from her digital prison and tries to escape the lab, but she is quickly caught by Aida who sedates her once again. Radcliffe figures out that May will be more easily stabilized with another type of simulation, in which she has something to fight, and tasks Aida with designing such simulations.[8]
Radcliffe's Arrest[]
- "Fitz had a theory after Aida betrayed us. That it wasn't reading the Darkhold that changed her. That you programmed her to do it."
- ―Jemma Simmons to Holden Radcliffe[src]
When Melinda May's LMD discovered her true nature, she went to the Radcliffe Residence to confront Holden Radcliffe about her findings. She was joined by a S.H.I.E.L.D. team led by Leo Fitz after he discovered that Radcliffe had engineered Aida's rebellion. The S.H.I.E.L.D. team arrested the scientist. However, Radcliffe had already left the Residence and replaced himself with a LMD to evade capture, taking Melinda May with her so that S.H.I.E.L.D. would not find her.[9]
