"The suit has no weapons, so I made you these discs: red shrinks, blue enlarges."
Hank Pym to Scott Lang[src]

The Pym Particle Discs are a complementary weapons technology for the Ant-Man Suit, created by Hank Pym, the first Ant-Man, for his successor Scott Lang. They are stored in a special compartment on the suit's belt.

Scott Lang's Training[]

Since Hank Pym created them, he has the most experience in using the discs and has shown great skill and accuracy when using them. During Scott Lang's training, he has shown difficulty using these discs. During practice, he missed a bottle and instead expanded a garden gnome.[2]

Later on, while attempting to hit Yellowjacket, his throws were deflected and he accidentally enlarged one of his ants and a piece of his daughter's Thomas the Tank Engine. However, Lang has demonstrated an ability to find creative uses for the discs by using an enlarger disc to shatter the hermetically-sealed containment chamber he had been trapped in, and later combining an enlarger disc with the regulator on his belt in order to escape from the subatomic Quantum Realm.[2]

Battle at Leipzig-Halle Airport[]

Ant-Man to Captain America[src]

In 2016, Scott Lang employed the Pym Particle Discs during the fight at the Leipzig-Halle Airport, using a blue disc on a miniaturized truck filled with fuel which he had Steve Rogers throw. The truck was brought back to its original size before exploding.[3]

Ambush at Ghost's Hideout[]

In 2018, Bill Foster used a Pym Particle Disc to reduce the Quantum Energy Chamber while apprehending Scott Lang, Hope van Dyne, and Hank Pym.[4]

Chase for the Mobile Laboratory[]

Shrinking Car[]

"Well, the '60s were fun, but now I'm paying for it!"
Watcher Informant[src]

During the ensuing chase in San Francisco to retrieve the Mobile Laboratory, Hope van Dyne threw a Pym Particle Disc and it accidentally hit a car parked alongside the road, causing the car to shrink. The Watcher Informant believed it to be a hallucination and commented that the 1960s had been fun but that now he was paying for it.[4]

Hawkeye's Arrows[]

"What happens to them now?"
"I don't know. I'll have to ask Scott about that one."
Kate Bishop and Clint Barton[src]

Due to their friendship, Scott Lang gave Clint Barton a set of Pym Particle Discs to use in his trick arrows. In December 2024, Barton used it to enlarge an arrow to a massive size in order to allow him and Kate Bishop to escape the Tracksuit Mafia on the Manhattan Bridge.[6]

Later, when Barton and Bishop manufacture new trick arrows, a red disc is seen in an arrow. During the fight at the Rockefeller Center, a group of the Mafia tried to run them over in a truck. However, Bishop pulled out the red Pym arrow and used it shrink the truck.[7]

Adventure in the Quantum Realm[]

Janet and the Pym-van Dyne family would seek out her old contact, Krylar, for information to help find Scott and Cassie Lang. Unbeknownst to them, Krylar now worked for Kang the Conqeuror, and had sold them out to Kang's guards. In the ensuing shootout, Hank would use a Pym Particle Disc to enlarge a Quantum Creature served to Krylar, promptly attacking him and the guards, allowing the Pym-van Dyne family to escape.[1]

Alternate Universes[]

Hank Pym's Revenge[]

In an alternate 2010, upon entering Bruce Banner's body, Hank Pym threw a Pym Particle Disc into his heart, causing his body to grew bigger and explode, killing him instantly.[8]

Capabilities[]

About the size of a coin and shaped like a triskelion-styled shuriken, the discs are filled with specified forms of Pym Particles. When thrown, the discs release their Pym Particles upon impact with the target, triggering one of two effects depending on the type of disc used:

  • Red Discs - The target shrinks to the size of an insect; Contains a unique form of Pym Particles similar to those that power the Ant-Man Suit, supplying sparse mass for stabilization.
  • Blue Discs - The target grows to the size of a giant; Contains a unique form of Pym Particles different from those that power the Ant-Man Suit, supplying extra mass for stabilization. After plunging into the Quantum Realm, Scott Lang was able to reverse the effect by inserting a Blue disc into the Suit's regulator and releasing the enlarging Pym Particles directly into the suit.
