Phillip J. "Phil" Coulson was the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who fought against Glenn Talbot after Talbot managed to infuse himself with Gravitonium. Coulson had been dying prior to the fight with Talbot due to the loss of his bloodstream's GH.325, but his subordinates saved his life using Centipede Serum; however, this proved pointless when Talbot absorbed Quake while going on a rampage, destroying the entire world and killing billions, including Coulson, in the process.

As S.H.I.E.L.D. discovered that Glenn Talbot had lost control of his mind following him infusing his body with Gravitonium, Coulson and the rest of the team went on a mission to stop him. However, once Talbot was able to absorb Quake into his body, he gained access to Quake's Inhuman power, which he proceeded to use to crack the Earth apart, with Coulson among the billions killed as a result.[2]
