Raising Trevor Slattery[]
- "The first time I witnessed pure artistry. 1968. Planet of the Apes. I was sitting in the cinema next to my mum, watching mastery unfold before my very eyes. After the film, I asked her, 'How did they get those monkeys to do those things?' And she patted me on the head and she said, 'It’s not real, pet. It’s just acting.'"
- ―Trevor Slattery[src]
Ms. Slattery lived with her son Trevor in Liverpool, England; his dream was always to be a world renowned stage actor, and she often took him to the theatre to help fuel his passion for the stage. The two were very close, with Slattery noting that she was everything to him.[1] In 1968, Ms. Slattery brought Trevor to watch the Planet of the Apes in the cinema, as he was confused about how monkeys could learn to ride horses. Ms. Slattery explained that they were just acting, which Trevor understood as meaning that the director got monkeys to pretend that they were riding horses.[2]
During Ms. Slattery's final moments, her son failed to be with her when she passed away in 1986, as Trevor was still continuing to pursue his dream as an actor in the United States of America.[1] While imprisoned in the Ten Rings Headquarters, Slattery kept a picture of him and his mother in his cell.[2]
