Garrett Pierre is a United States Air Force pilot who was friends with Tom Bianchi.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Growing up in middle school, Garrett Pierre considered sports involving projectiles and physical contact to be a nightmare. He enjoyed the oxtails prepared by his grandmother. One day, Pierre and his family drove to hours to Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. They watched an air show in which people flew Northrop T-38 Talons which impressed him. He saw the Silver Eagles perform, which led to him wanting to join the United States Air Force in order to fly.[1]
United States Air Force[]
First Day[]
Garrett Pierre was accepted into the United States Air Force academy and trained there. On the first day of training, he and Tom Bianchi took place in a competition against Maria Rambeau and Carol Danvers. Bianchi and Pierre won their pull-ups, but Rambeau and Danvers beat them on pull-ups and sit-ups respectively. The last competition was the mile run. Pierre and Bianchi ended up being lapped by the two women. Bianchi soon heard Danvers saying she did not care about the men, which Bianchi took exception to. Rambeau asked if Bianchi really wanted to start an argument after he lost. Pierre jokingly pointed out that they even lapped him. Pierre started to distance himself from Bianchi and Del Orbe by the end of the fourth week of training.[1]
Field Day[]
During training, Pierre was beaten by Maria Rambeau. For field day, he was put on a team with Rambeau, Carol Danvers, Erik Del Orbe, and Tom Bianchi. Pierre and Del Orbe were assigned to a team participating in the log carry event. Danvers and Rambeau approached Pierre, Del Orbe, and Bianchi and agreed to a truce for the competition, as Bianchi had been antagonistic toward Danvers. His team won the field day against Bret Johnson's.[1]
Second Beast[]
Pierre and his flight participated in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear training, in which they were exposed to several chemicals as they had to recite their reporting statement. As Pierre left the chamber, he started vomiting violently, forcing his body into a position that he appeared to be kneeling. Carol Danvers and Maria Rambeau helped him stand up and brought him to where the rest of their flight were cleaning their gas masks. Pierre held his dirtied glasses in his hand and wiped his nose, hoping to clear the snot. However, more came out.
That afternoon, Pierre managed to heal and commented that his cold was gone while eating. Pierre, Rambeau, and Danvers agreed that they were happy it was over, and introduced themselves with first names. Tom Bianchi and Erik Del Orbe joined and did the same, prompting the group to laugh at Bianchi when Rambeau and Danvers suggested that he did not look like a "Tom." Pietter talked to Rambeau and Del Orbe about the upcoming Acceptance PRased.[1]
Acceptance Day[]
Bianchi joined the rest of the graduates on Acceptance Day in marching in an inverted-wedge formation as his flight was awarded with Honor Flight as well as Beast flight. He joined as the cadets sand the National Anthem, and recited the Honor Oath. Once the ceremony was over, Pierre and Carol Danvers were taken down by a celebratory hug from Erik Del Orbe. Tom Bianchi approached the group and congratulated them before apologizing to Danvers for the way he treated her. As Bianchi and Danvers talked, Pierre and Del Orbe left.[1]
Starting Classes[]
On the first day of classes, Pierre went to the track to run in the morning with Tom Bianchi, Erik Del Orbe, Carol Danvers, and Maria Rambeau. They discussed Flickerball, their intramural sport which they all had together, which Pierre compared to activities he hated in middle school. Rambeau told Pierre to relax and they started running. They went to classes for the day and then met up in the library after, where they all studied together. Rambeau brought up an air show that students would be attending, and the group started talking about it excitedly, hoping for the United States Air Force Thunderbirds would be there. Zoë Noble chimed in, mentioning that Captain Jenks used to be a member of the Thunderbirds until he got grounded, but that she did not know why. Danvers wondered aloud how it happen, prompting Rambeau to scold her in a way that Pierre, Del Orbe, and Bianchi resumed studying to allow them a private moment.[1]
Air Show[]
As winter began, Pierre continued learning Flickerball. Erik Del Orbe hit Pierre with a Flickerball one day jokingly, and they continued playing. When Maria Rambeau scored a point, Pierre gave her a high five. Del Orbe, Pierre, and Rambeau joined Carol Danvers and Tom Bianchi, who revealed that Rambeau and Danvers were taking flying lessons. The group joked about Del Orbe's bet that they were simply taking lessons as they went to dinner. They were approached by Captain Jenks, who embarrassed Danvers. As Jenks left, Danvers panicked, and Pierre and Del Orbe paced anxiously while Bianchi and Rambeau calmed her down. Danvers asked why Jenks hated her, and the group agreed it was because she was the best while not being like Jenks.
At the air show the next day, Pierre talked to the group about his time seeing the Silver Eagles fly, making him want to fly combat himself. Bianchi teased him about consistently talking about it, prompting Pierre to make fun of Bianchi for consistently talking about wanting to fly combat. Del Orbe brought up a meet and greet with Senator John Glenn, and the group agreed to go. As the United States Air Force Thunderbirds were introduced, Pierre saw that Danvers and Rambeau were disheartened by the fact that all of the pilots looked like Jenks. He brought up Lloyd "Fig" Newton, a black pilot who joined the Thunderbirds, inspiring Danvers and Rambeau. At the end of the show, Pierre went with Bianchi and Del Orbe to wait to see Glenn while Danvers and Rambeau went to touch one of the Thunderbirds' planes.[1]
Continued Studies[]
Pierre continued taking Introduction to Soaring, and left with Maria Rambeau and Tom Bianchi one day after Rambeau told Danvers that she needed to stop letting Jenks affect her. They went to the mess hall, where a conversation started about whose family had the best. The group went silent as Danvers arrived, but Rambeau reignited the conversation, during which Pierre talked about his grandmother's oxtail recipe. The group then went to the library to study, but Danvers chose to leave.
Some time later, Del Orbe prepared to run with Tom Bianchi and Erik Del Orbe when Danvers and Rambeau arrived, visibly nervous. The group asked if they were fighting again. Rambeau assured them that they were not, revealing Pierre, and Danvers revealed that they had learned about the results of their private pilot's license tests. Del Orbe and Pierre distracted the group by trying to say "private pilot's license" ten times fast before suggesting they open the letters at the same time. However, Bianchi got tired of the waiting and opened both letters, revealing that they passed. The group celebrated, and Del Orbe and Pierre decided they should celebrate by not running. Pierre headlocked Danvers and told her how proud he was. He got emotional and started crying, so Danvers hugged him for comfort. Danvers then told the group to start running while she and Bianchi got water, upsetting Del Orbe and Pierre, who had convinced themselves they would not run. However, Rambeau pushed them to start running. Zoë Noble joined them, and they eventually started playing freeze tag.[1]
Celebratory Meal[]
Pierre went with Tom Bianchi and Erik Del Orbe to celebrate Carol Danvers and Maria Rambeau's tryouts for the Flying Falcons with Jack and Bonnie Thompson. As Danvers told the story of Jenks putting the engine on idle to protect Danvers from herself, Pierre and Bianchi helped clear room for her to place down a plate of corn on the cob which Jack had prepared. Bonnie asked Bianchi and Pierre to go inside and get the sweet tea and lemonade, and Pierre got excited about the lemonade. The two went inside to receive the pitchers. Pierre and Bianchi returned with Del Orbe and the group started eating, exchanging stories. Pierre listened as Danvers and Rambeau realized they needed a new goal other than flying combat, so he suggested they fly helicopters, leading him to face mockery from the group for his obsession with them. Jack and Bonnie returned with pie and Del Orbe, who sat down. The Thompsons then gave each pilot a silver dollar from the year they were born, showing the group their own. Del Orbe noted that they had been rubbed smooth, so Bonnie commented that they needed a lot of luck. The pilots all thanked the Thompsons, and Bonnie reminded them to be themselves. They all ate dessert together.[1]
Recognition[]
As the United States Air Force Academy started its Recognition ceremony, Pierre fell into line with his squadron. Pierre participated in a series of physically demanding activities for the first day and the group said goodbye to each other that night, all going to sleep. The next day, he stretched with Tom Bianchi and Garrett Pierre while Carol Danvers and Maria Rambeau arrived late. Danvers explained that she had realized she was going to miss all of them, prompting Pierre to become emotional. Bianchi sympathized with Danvers, but asked to be allowed to hold off processing his emotions until after Recognition, which Pierre agreed with. They agreed to get a group photo after the Run to the Rock. After an intense second day of Recognition, Danvers remembered that the names of the people who had made the Flying Falcons had released, but Del Orbe and Pierre complained about being tired. Bianchi told the pair to go to bed while they found out who made the team.
On the final day of Recognition, Pierre fell into line with the other cadets and smiled. Chen commended Pierre for his kindness while they waited for the Run to the Rock to start. Their squadron then ran to the top of the mountain, where Pierre, Rambeau, Del Orbe, and Danvers all hugged, eventually getting joined by Bianchi. Pierre noticed Bianchi's camera and asked where he got it, so Bianchi explained his mother sent it to him. They saw Zoë Noble and asked her to take five separate group photos, which Noble questioned. Pierre explained that it was so they could each have one, prompting sarcasm from Noble, who eventually took the picture. The group said their goodbyes and parted ways as they got ready for the Recognition dinner, where they received their prop-and-wings pins.[1]
