Doctor Strange: The Path to Enlightenment is a storybook based on Doctor Strange.

Synopsis[]

A storybook based on the new movie, Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

Stephen Strange was once a brilliant but arrogant surgeon who finds hope and healing from a powerful mystic.[1]

Plot[]

Doctor Strange is in Kathmandu following an injury to his hands. The former surgeon wants to find a cure for his injury in a place called Kamar-Taj. He meets a man who escorts him to Kamar-Taj, although Strange is doubtful and uncomfortable. He arrogantly asks the man if he is in the right place. The man symphasizes with Strange, but calls him out for being disrespectful. He gives Strange the advice to forget everything he thinks he knows. Strange enters the courtyard, and is surprised at its size. There are a lot of people practicing mindfulness and the Mystic Arts.

Strange meets the Ancient One, who pushes his spirit from his body. She tells the doctor to free his mind, and that she has separated his Astral Form from his body. Strange is dumbfounded by the use of magic, and the mysterious man, named Karl Mordo, brings Strange to the Mirror Dimension. There, a sorcerer can travel far distances very quickly. Strange is terrified at the unfamiliar magic, and asks why he is seeing this. The Ancient One replies that it is to show Strange how much he doesn't know. She orders Strange to open his eye, and by placing her thumb on his forehead, transports Strange through the ground into space. She pulls Strange back, and the doctor knows that he has changed. He no longer wants to cure his hands, but to learn the mystic arts. Mordo explains to Strange that Kamar-Taj is just the beginning of his journey, and advises him to rest and meditate.

When first trying to learn the mystic arts, Strange finds himself falling behind compared to the other students. This makes him frustrated. The Ancient One tells Strange that he must let go of his pride in order to succeed. After months of practicing, Strange masters his basic training, and is able to spar with Mordo, using special magical objects called relics. Strange realizes that he can now match Mordo's blows, and his confidence grows. However, Mordo reminds Strange that he is still learning, and advises him to fight like his life depends on it. Strange reflects that his mentor is correct, and there will be hard battles in the future. He further studies the mystic arts in order to prepare for an inevitable battle. Strange reads books in the library for hours. He discovers the Eye of Agamotto and decides to study it. Mordo notices Strange handling the amulet, and knowing its danger, invites him to the next level of his training.

Mordo teaches Strange that there are three Sanctum Sanctorums around the world that are built upon intersections of power. As Strange processes his lesson, he is sent to the New York Sanctum via an explosion. At the Sanctum, Strange explores and discovers the Chamber of Relics, but is ambushed by five figures. Strange recognizes the intruders as former students, and remembers that they rejected the Ancient One's teachings and are now Zealots. Using a whip-like spell, Strange snaps at a Zealot closest to him. He continues fighting, using all of the magic he has learned. But Strange is still inexperienced, and is launched towards the relics by Kaecilius. There, a sentient cloak bonds with Strange, protecting him and floating him in the air. Now that Strange has his own relic, he stands a chance against his enemies. Strange is no longer just a wounded surgeon, but the Sorcerer Supreme.
