"In pursuit, sir. Banner has a good lead."

The Ambush in Porto Verde was an attack orchestrated by the United States Army on Bruce Banner in an attempt to capture Hulk.

Background[]

Bruce Banner took part in an experiment with the United States Army which was aimed at making soldiers stronger. In order to continue the experiment, Banner tested on himself, resulting in the creation of the monstrous Hulk. The Army attempted to hunt Banner down while Banner tried to kill himself, only for the Hulk to stop the bullet. The Army continued their search, with Thaddeus Ross at the helm insisting that Banner's body was property of the Army.[1]

The Hulk fights through several soldiers

Emil Blonsky tracked Bruce Banner down to Porto Verde and started chasing him through the city. While Thaddeus Ross instructed Blonsky not to let Banner escape, Banner ran into a factory. The United States Army blew up the building, prompting Banner to transform into the Hulk and rise from the rubble. He fought the soldiers who were shooting at him, successfully defeating them. Hulk was challenged by Blonsky and the remained of his troops, but easily defeated them before fleeing.[1]

Aftermath[]

"If Banner knows what it was, I am going to find him, I'm gonna put my foot on his throat, and then I'm gonna ask him."
Emily Blonsky to Thaddeus Ross[src]

Emil Blonsky was left lying on the ground in the factory, when he was appraoched by General Thaddeus Ross. Blonsky explained that they were attacked by something, that he intended to interrogate Bruce Banner about what it was. However, Ross explained to Blonsky that the Hulk was Banner, and that the monster was created as the result of a bio-tech experiment.

Hulk fled to New York City, where he encountered the Enclave and fought them off, saving Rick Jones' life. The military was able to track Hulk down to the city, so Ross ordered a strike team to go after him.[1]
