- "Do you have the first clue who these people are? What they do to their enemies?"
- Cutter to Anthony Lockwood and Lucy Carlyle, regarding Julius Winkman's organization
Cutter is a character on Netflix's Lockwood & Co. He is portrayed by Paul Thornley.
Biography[]
Cutter was an undercover agent of DEPRAC who had been sent to infiltrate the organization headed by Julius Winkman[2], a relic-man and dangerous merchant of relics, ghostly sources traded on the black market. He had been working for five months and the auction of the Bone Glass was his big case that he hoped would finally crack the organization.
Cutter's plans hit a snag when, just prior to the auction, he detected the presence of Anthony Lockwood and Lucy Carlyle, agents of the small agency Lockwood & Co. who were trying to sneak into the auction with the aim of recovering the Bone Glass. When he warned them away, Lockwood asked to work together with him, but he told him that he was there to infiltrate Winkman's organization and that they were not going to mess this up. Lockwood stated that they weren't leaving without the Bone Glass, but Cutter told him and Lucy about a door to the dock and warned them to run and not look back before they got caught by Winkman's men.
Lockwood, however, determined to recover the Bone Glass, ignored Cutter's advice. Over Lucy's objections, he proceeded as planned, having the two of them sneak into the auction. He then started a bidding war against the Golden Blade for the Bone Glass. When Julius Winkman and his wife Adelaide Winkman made the two of them come forward for proof of payment, he had planned for Lucy to create a distraction using magnesium flares however when the lighter didn't immediately ignite the flares, Lockwood's rapier was spotted and he was restrained[3]. Lockwood was held in place by two others while Cutter took his rapier and punched him before he was thrown to the ground and his identity revealed. Upon Lucy finally being able to ignite the flares, Lockwood seized the Bone Glass along with other sources in the melee and the two fled.
Lockwood and Lucy then made a run for it, only to find their path barred by a padlocked door. They were corned by Winkman and his men, including Cutter[4]. When Lockwood and Lucy glanced to Cutter, he shook his head[5], but Winkman picked up on the fact that the two knew each other. When Cutter claimed that he didn't, he told him to convince him. Cutter then stepped forward and drew his weapon, but used it to cut away the lock on the door. Lockwood and Lucy then ran and Winkman told Cutter that he knew he was a snake. Cutter told him to stay back, that he was a DEPRAC officer and the place was surrounded[6]. Winkman, however, knew better. He threatened Cutter's family, then ordered his underlings to get Cutter. Lockwood then watched and listened in horror as Cutter was savagely attacked and killed[7]. He remained frozen in shock until Lucy pulled him away.
Lockwood blamed himself for what had happened to the man. In his and Lucy's later conflict with the Golden Blade, the Blade used Cutter's death to taunt Lockwood and Lucy[8], successfully angering Lockwood. The Blade then revealed to Lockwood that he had already told Winkman the truth about Cutter. He continued that Winkman was planning to kill him live on stage as a finale to the auction[9]. Lockwood asked him how he had known, but he was cagey regarding the matter.
