Putting together a game prototype in LÖVE, it’s nice to finally have an interesting (possibly) original mechanic to play with.
Driving up the country to fetch some new (heated!) seats for the Golf. Also picking up a cheap upgraded dashboard whilst I’m there, because why not. Then driving to friends’ boat to help him do some work on it for a couple of days.
No running this weekend, but the boat is on the hard so you have to climb ~4 meters up/down every time you get on/off it. Should be a fairly active couple of days, possibly without any computing which will be a change of pace.

Planning to finish building my 2nd keyboard, a Corne. First time Soldering smd components. Going to use VIA to get comfortable with the layout and then move on to my own firmware.
Corne is a really cool board. What type of switches are you going to use?
I’m a currently using a Kyria and I like its stagger a lot. I really like QMK, it is really powerful. I’ve been using homerow mods for awhile and it feels really natural now.
The Kyria’s OLED is really something. It’s a bummer it’s not Open Source, else would’ve opted to build that. Homerow mods seems cool, will try it out. Thanks : )

Building my second keyboard, but it’s a completely custom pcb I made in kicad and it’s the first print of it, so hoping it works right.
Other than that, any last minute prep items for first baby due any day now.
I’m doing okay writing blog posts and such, but have some sort block of working on my Vim reference guide. Has happened mid-way previously too, so I hope I can get back to consistent writing soon. Been going through the manual and other resources to improve my understanding as well.

Re-coding my GatsbyJS side project to not use MDX and just use straight Markdown instead, because apparently despite the fact that their default tutorial has you build with MDX it’s not at all well supported by the rest of the GatsbyJS plugin ecosystem.
Specific use case that’s prompting this is I want to add an RSS feed, and the gatsby-plugin-feed-mdx plugin is what you want for that - BUT the plugin hasn’t been updated to the latest major Gatsby version. I tried updating it myself, and got trapped in an oubliette involving Webpack and JSON output combining errors.
No regrets. Learned a lot from the tutorial and arrived at the styling I want - I’ll also learn even more about GatsbyJS by composing the various (actually working, supported, up to date :) plugins to achieve the same visual effect.
Still feeling like a JS newb. I feel OK about the language itself but the vast ecosystem around it is.. A lot.
I am visiting my parents who live on an island a an hour or so away. It will be a weekend of RnR.
Installed CloudReady (distro of ChromeOS certified to work on many OTS laptops) on the wimpy Thinkpad Yoga 11E I had laying around. Going to see how much more usable chromeOS is now with their linux VM mumbo jumbo. May write a blog post about it because I haven’t really given chromeOS the true college try since 2012(?) which is insane!
Half day of skiing today, and possibly tomorrow.
Also want to tidy up my apartment and finish reading a book.
Getting chores done and sleeping. Maybe doing something actually useful if I’m lucky.
Reading more Otto Rank. Throwing OpenWrt on an old ASUS router so I can have a guest network running all my PRC + ROC tech. More Death Stranding, perhaps. Enjoying the three day weekend pretty much.
Got a new air fryer, I’ve got a whole line up of recipes to try this weekend. So far Buffalo Cauliflower “wings” are a far and away winner.
Programming wise, I might find a Makie.jl ticket to pickup, wanting to get more into Julia open source.
Buffalo Cauliflower is great. My favourite air fryer recipe so far is fried olives. You need three bowls, the first full of plain flour with whatever spices you feel like (some ginger and paprika is nice), one with egg, and one with breadcrumbs. Roll a pimento-stuffed olive in each bowl in turn until it’s completely coated. Pop them in the air fryer for about 5 minutes and they come out warm and crunchy. Totally addictive. Fortunately, they’re just enough effort that I am too lazy to stuff my face with them all the time.

That’s a very lazy claim and makes as much sense as saying the only difference between a toaster and a microwave is marketing - after all, they both use EM radiation directed at the surface of the food to heat and so must be basically equivalent. The fact that it’s a different part of the spectrum is just a detail.
The outcome of heating food depends on quite a lot of factors. There’s a big difference between convection and radiation in heating. Radiation (in the form of grills, toasters, and so on) provides a lot of heat towards the food and so produces a very high temperature gradient. The outside gets oxidised quickly, the inside may remain cold. In a microwave, the heat comes from interaction between the water molecules and the microwave and so the hotest point is just below the surface. This typically isn’t exposed to air and so you don’t cause any of the chemical reactions that lead to crisping on the outside. A convection oven heats the air and cooks the food by the air conducting heat to the food. The air cools as a result of transferring the heat to the food. An old-style convection oven typically would heat very unevenly and so newer (last 50 years?) ones have a fan that moves the air around. This means that moisture from the surface is slowly removed, which can dry out the surface of the food.
An air fryer has a much more aggressive fan. This means that the temperature of the air touching the food is generally higher, it also means that the drying effect is much greater. As a result, things get crisp much faster in an air fryer and, because the edges get hotter faster, the middle is cooked faster.
This means that, if you have a small amount of oil on the surface of food, the result is closer to deep frying than to roasting.
Size and air speed (typically substantially faster in an air fryer - which is good for e.g. pork crackling where rapid surface heating is key).
An air fryer moves the air a lot faster than a fan-assisted oven. This means that it dries the surface of the food a lot more quickly and transfers heat to the surface faster.
