The Lives of Others 2006

There definitely doesn’t seem to be many prominent films depicting the harsh realities of pre-reunification Germany, which is a shame because I’m fascinated by that era. Intelligently written and intense (which is kinda obvious given its focus on government surveillance and oppression) but still refined and intimate in the way it treats its major players.
