50th Rewatch.
Figured what better way to start the New Year than by rewatching and finally reviewing my favorite film of all time.
I remember my 1st watch of this modern classic like it was yesterday and still get highly emotional whenever I think back to that time, I've reiterated this many times but to keep it short, life wasn't the prettiest and out of everything I've seen including comfort shows and movies, this was the only piece of media to make me feel something different and crack a genuine smile in God knows how long.
La La Land, a story about a doomed romance between two distant yet very close souls. Damien Chazelle's homage to old Hollywood (specifically musicals) taking several aspects form different films but making it it's own. Though I'm not a fan of musicals and really didn't care for this before pressing play, this completely exceeded my expectations and opened my eyes to more golden musicals I've been missing out on. That opening scene alone brings in so much joy. Fastly passing through cars presenting us with multiple peoples different types of music slowly leading to an insanely huge musical number that displays the whole theme of the film we're about to see.
Whether it'd be the stunning cinematography from Linus Sandgren making every shot look so effortlessly breathtaking, Or Damien Chazelle's incredible as always direction bringing so much more this picture.
What really puts this film all together and makes it one of the greatest I've seen would be Justin Hurwitz's original score & Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling themselves.
Every musical number displayed, perfectly blending together with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's performances bring together a much more compelling meaning to this broken relationship between two characters we all want to see succeed.
