Valentine's Week MM 2022
Film #2
I remember the first time I watched this. I had the privilege of watching it on the big screen. I was 18, and I went to watch it with a group of friends, and they hated it. I was shocked! I just loved it so much, and I couldn't understand why they didn't like it. But, I guess, they were used to other types of films, like not everyone enjoys musicals.
This is the magic of cinema at its finest and a love letter to classic Hollywood musicals. One of the greatest musicals I've seen. Why?
It has one of the best soundtracks ever. Every single song is lovely, catchy, original, brilliantly written and composed. Most of the musical sequences are breathtaking, from the stunning opening sequence to the beautiful Planetarium Dance, to the emotional and heart-touching audition song, to the exquisite and magnificent epilogue; one of the most astonishing and imaginative epilogues ever. This film is such a visual delight; the way it is shot is simply flawless; so colourful, vivid and bursting so much energy and passion. The sound, editing, cinematography, direction, performances... are all top-notch. Emma Stone shines in this film.
The story is simple and you may say it's somewhat "clichéd", however, the way it is told, elevates the material to a work of outstanding artistry and skill. I'm just so in love with this film right now!
Here's to the fools who dream...
Never give up!
