Finally got to rewatch Mad Max: Fury Road before Furiosa's release tomorrow, and I'm going to be very honest: when I first watched it in 2022, I liked it, don't get me wrong, but I feel like the 4.5 stars I gave it back then was a bit too high. Back in the day I would rate movies based on both personal enjoyment and objective rating. There's no such thing as objectivity in film however.
While I did lower the rating by half a star this time, it does not mean I enjoyed it less, it's still one of my favorite action movies ever made, it's just that the 4 stars I'm rating it now is more sincere and true to what I felt back then, and how I feel now too.
This movie's absolutely ridiculous. It is, without a shadow of a doubt, a technical marvel. Mesmerizing color grading, absurd editing, over the top set pieces, costume and character designs, and almost never ending action sequences that leave your jaw on the floor.
Something I love about Fury Road, which I heard is also featured in Furiosa, is how little dialogue there is. George Miller fully respects the audience enough and knows what he and they want in an all out action film: all out action.
I'd love to watch the Black and Chrome edition someday and see how it differs visually from the original version. Idk if the night scenes will be done justice at all though if I'm being honest, but I'm sure the rest would look badass.
This rewatch got me so hyped up for Furiosa tomorrow.
