A review that I have recently finally finished writing (3 years after seeing the movie) got me thinking about ways that the COVID-19 pandemic affected everyone’s movie-going habits.
Just out of curiosity, for anyone who happens to see this, I am wondering about experiences related to movie-going in theatres and at home – before, during and after the pandemic. Specifically:
• What was the last film that you saw in a movie theatre BEFORE the pandemic (preferably, with the date)?
• What was the first film that you saw in a movie theatre AFTER the pandemic (preferably, with the date)?
• What was your favorite film (or films) that you watched at home DURING the pandemic?
I'll start:
• The last film that I saw in a movie theatre before the pandemic was WENDY - a phantasmagoric reimagining of the Peter Pan story, from the perspective of Wendy Darling – made by the director of BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD. I watched WENDY on March 7, 2020 – six days before the pandemic shutdown.
• The first film that I saw in a movie theatre AFTER (sort of) the pandemic was A QUIET PLACE, PART II. I watched A QUIET PLACE, PART II on July 8, 2021.
• My favorite films that I watched at home DURING the pandemic was a three-way tie:
1) NEVER RARELY SOMETIMES ALWAYS
2) NOMADLAND
3) SOUND OF METAL
