The look of disgust on my face during the discussion scene when Kyoto is mentioned as an option
What an absolute trip that for the most part works perfectly for me. It’s one of the best biopics I’ve ever seen, and I think upon a rewatch to take in the vast amount of information that it’s trying to tell- I’ll have even more appreciation for what I had just watched.
Watching Oppenheimers arch from early days to post horror of the weapon he helped create is such a vivid watch. The stomping feet in the score. The look of horror during the celebration, and the well done cuts between black and white, and coloured scenes. All help to really tell this story and expose the brutal honesty of the chest that was opened the moment the military picked up the two atomic bombs with the sole purpose of devastation.
Fascinating to see the early signs of McCarthyism at play throughout the war time, and the way that the forces at work use Oppenheimers beliefs and supports to try and alienate him post bomb.
Tons of great performances, I know RDJ is getting a ton of love. My favorites though have to be Emily Blunt who has some really memorable moments, Josh Hartnett who returns to the big screen and encapsulated his character in the best of way, and David Krumholtz who really gets to shine in the second half of the movie as a pivotal character. So many people can be applauded though for their work on this, Pugh, Damon, Affleck, Rami Malek, de Haan, and Olivia Thirbly all come to mind just in retrospect of my first watch.
