The file that I got had shitty subtitles, but since this is a remake I was able to follow the plot (obviously altered to a modern French setting and with a more mysterious female version of the teacher character from the original). Impeccable cinematography from Kurosawa as always. Seeing Kafuku from Drive My Car is always a treat.

Easter Sunday 2022
Watched this alone in my local theater, and that’s opening night! But I didn’t mind, because I just had to be there to watch this milestone in Filipino-American representation in Hollywood. Easter Sunday may not please anyone, certainly not non-Filipinos who may not get some of the Filipinisms, but this is such a proud moment for me and I shall cherish it.

Andrei Rublev 1966
Andrei Rublev is unlike anything I've ever seen before. Andrei Tarkovsky's medieval epic doesn't feel like one. Nor does it feel like a biography of the titular character, who's an icon painter in 15th century Russia. Instead, it's a one of a kind sensory experience, one that requires full attention.
