After a lot of consideration, I decided that while I love Before Sunrise, this is my favorite of the Before Trilogy.
There are moments in this film that I think about on a weekly, if not daily, basis.

The Royal Tenenbaums 2001

I adore the storybook nature of this film. It makes the characters all the more charming and absurd. And the soundtrack. Holy shit. Opened up my entire world. This movie introduced me to Elliott Smith. I remember changing my MySpace profile song to “Needle in the Hay” after watching it when I was 15. What an emo kid.
I feel this is Wes Anderson’s best film. I love a lot of his stuff, especially Rushmore, The Life Aquatic and Bottle Rocket, but this one ranks highest on my list because I feel it has the best story, characters and set design.

The cinematography in this film is breathtakingly perfect. I find myself scrolling past stills from this film over and over again. The meandering pace can be a bit challenging. It helps if you have an odd fascination with Henry Dean Stanton. What a guy.
