Seth is gonna be happy with this.
Immaculate vibes. Easily my favorite part is the diner scene. Love Robert Prosky in this too. Great score. Just an absolute blast
Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. Gladiator is possibly my most rewatched movie and in general just one of my favorites. Ridley did not cook with this one. SO many unnecessary lines, random shots, CGI, etc. if this didn’t have Mescal or Denzel it could be an absolute disaster. I’m just going to pretend that this is not connected in any way to the original.
At this point Knives Out is a comfort movie for me. I love the drama in its actually kind of complex mystery, even tho the ultimate twist is easily predicted. Each character is just a parody and Daniel Craig absolutely cooks. I always have a good time watching this movie.
Babylon is audacious in every sense of the word. Pure insanity and unstoppable energy make the 3 hour runtime unnoticeable. Every actor does the maximum with their part, and I thought Robbie and Calva were particularly impressive. Chazelle demonstrates again not just a mastery, but also wild creativity when it comes to production and sound design. What really makes a film great is the intangible feeling you experience while watching, and Babylon’s roaring, ludicrous vibrancy makes it one of the best films of the decade so far.
