I think it’s insane to make a whole film about the state repression of Robeson for his political beliefs, but not ONCE mention what his political beliefs were: he was a communist! That was the whole basis for the State Department revoking his passport!
Thorough whitewashing of Robeson’s legacy to make his activism more palatable to an American audience.

This tragedy about being complicit in genocide—and doing mental gymnastics to convince yourself you’re doing the right thing—is eternally relevant, but especially in light of the current situation in Palestine.
These stories are not over; they’re weaved into the capitalist world we live in today, and even commodified for profit.
