I did not give this movie nearly enough credit the first time around. While it isn’t perfect - the Uncle Aaron subplot needed a few more beats to really land and it could have used way more of Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and Spider-Ham who we are seeing off just a few scenes after they’re introduced - the story is presented just so creatively, the closest cinema has come to capturing the look and feel of a comic, telling a mind bogglingly cool sci-fi story all the while presenting a great message of representation without being didactic. I love how the Aryan version of Peter Parker is replaced in the movie by a Latino teen, a middle aged Jewish man and a gap toothed girl.
Most importantly the animation is so amazing and so unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. The kaleidoscope of colors during the climax left me awestruck. It’s the most special thing I’ve seen this year.
