It’s truly devastating how little Irish history is taught. The trauma runs deep throughout every Irish family and I believe it needs to be taught worldwide.
Cillian Murphy’s performance, although he says little throughout the film, was astonishing. His ability to portray Bill, a closed off man battling with his emotions and trauma, without using any grand gestures or words is impeccable.
I may be biased because of the fact I am Irish and a history nerd but this film is amazing and greatly underrated, I’m glad I got to enjoy the book first. There’s not nearly enough media representation of all the awful things that were going on in Ireland for so long. I cannot believe it’s not even been 30 years since this. Those young girls being put through such excruciating trauma and suffering at their age. And the fact that there’s still graves being dug up to this day with piles of young babies in them. I know every country has its trauma, but I will never stop speaking about all the atrocious things that happened in Ireland.
