When Patton Oswalt once described a theoretical movie as being “very Zemeckis”, he was looking into the future to describe this unknowable, borderline avant-garde piece that really does something in film you haven’t seen before AND it definitely feels like you’re watching a movie by the Forrest Gump guy. Genuine emotional beats are sometimes overwhelmed by sappiness, but there’s still enough meditation on aging that it frankly kind of depressed me, when you realize how fleeting life is and how easy it is to waste it. Reaches into an existentialist POV that feels like it could come from Bergman before it snaps you back into the carefree days of the La-Z-Boy inventor. 

Lowkey could be the funniest movie of the year?
