This telepathically infused, satanic panic, serial killer procedural is everything I crave from an indie horror flick. Dripping with distinct directorial personality, powerful cinematic choices, a chilling score, and an all-encompassing eerie atmosphere, it’s no wonder this is instantly being beloved by many. The statements about this being The Silence of the Lambs for new generation feel apt, from both a narrative story and tension feeling perspective. Especially with Nick Cage stealing the show as the truly dreadful and haunting Longlegs. I absolutely adore this performance. Genuinely, one of his best ever.
Though the cogs of the narrative mystery don’t fully work, as the movie uses occult references and psychic excuses to skim over its plot holes, the overall tone and chilling nature of this picture are so overwhelmingly positive, in conjunction with great performances, that it’s hard not to be enraptured by this film.
