Anora 2024
Amazing in many places, excessive on others. Baker's style of fabulously unrestricted, high-spirited exoticism and then a facepalm by the unglamorous patheticness taking hold of the steering wheel. I wish i could <3 the structure more, as the road tripping felt like leading a goose chase that became progressively extra to an undercooked entirety. In pure Baker editing glory, it's energetic and funnily soundtracked. Accentuated by Mickey Madison's bold and batshit range met to Sean's world of vociferous sleaze and fun meeting the lameness of party dying down to a consequentially unfunny reality.

Nosferatu 2024
Undeniably Egger's in all the gothic surfaces, you name them: Cavernous photography, obsessively historic fonts and subharmonic dubbing as the sonorous warcry of profoundly alchemical, muddy antiquities. It's crack if you asked for a lovechild of The Witch's vibe within a period horror curse detective riff. When it comes to remake liberties, this goes leagues beyond the 1922's sleepwalking and stop motion telekinesis, but it brings onto frame a confusing journey zigzagging between black lettered mystery, plague tragedies and grotesque…

Leave the World Behind 2023
A lovechild of M Night Shyamalan and 10 Cloverfield Lane. Helluva long for an excercise of buildup and cataclysm blueballing the damn answer. Heightens incredibly by the end, only to faceplant in Netflix original fashion by making it feel like it amputated the 3rd act. Kinda ballsy approach of It Comes at Night-ing an onslaught of disaster movie plagues and prophetizing physical copies whilst dehumanizing HboMax users.

The Killer 2023
American Psycho, for overthinking triggermen. Aesthetically handsome, as Fincher's digitally polished havens embody a slowpoke, just as globetrotting but more plausible Bourne of sorts. Overstays it's welcome through aimless tête à tête. A particularly brutal fistfight proves that gun-for-hire dilly dally can be a sensorial assault and a cinematic sight for sore eyes. I'm a bit disillusioned of how surface-layered it was though, amazing how such a strong and elegant vibe can fizzle out into a throwaway thriller. You'll need more than a million dollar Fassbender ASMR to amend the lack of a Mindhunter season 3, Netflix!
