It's so sad to me that a lot of people never experienced this in theaters. Hard to imagine with today's Spider-Man climate, but back then there was genuinely nothing like this in the film world. The fact that a lengthy, mature, and profound animated epic about Spidey of all people was SOMEHOW made with this level of quality is the sole reason I believe we are in the best timeline. How on earth did Sony, the same studio that made The Emoji Movie, create a spectacle such as this, complete with humor for all ages, a stellar cast, a terrifying but fun villain, one of the best soundtracks ever, a legitimate threat that led to the death of multiple important characters, and a genuinely emotional and thought-provoking look at what it means to be a hero? Not only did it do this, but it also managed to pull off a style that completely shook the animation world and reinvigorated the entire superhero genre as a whole. There's a reason this movie has been one of my favorites for so long, it's actually one of the greatest films of all time from every angle. One of my best theater experiences ever. I'll always remember the drive home, being on my phone rewatching as many scenes as I could just to see that animation again.
This film 100% was meant to have a sequel, and, although I'm not sure anything will top what this movie accomplished, I'm incredibly excited and anxious to see what's next.
