Longlegs is incredibly tense. The atmosphere of the thing is immaculate almost throughout. Its shot composition has you glancing around the frame, constantly alert, especially within its earliest sequences. The central mystery too is a great hook. It feels familiar, something akin to Zodiac or Silence of the Lambs, and it is brilliantly laid out and explored but does leave a little too much in the wind - completely unexplained - to be as satisfying as it could be. The other problem with Longlegs is Nicholas Cage. While visually, his character is strikingly unnerving, especially in that first scene, he really looses all mysticism the more he speaks and the more he, well, goes full Cage.
