Bleak, dark, depressing, harrowing, unsettling, challenging, realistic, cold, unflinching, brutal, mesmerizing, well-acted, meticulously-crafted, well-scored, and powerful.
A period piece based on true events, filled with monsters—but they’re all human. Every scene is steeped in hopeless dread, every frame is beautifully shot, and every note of the haunting score worms its way under your skin. It’s not an easy watch and I don’t think it was trying to be. My top film of 2025, so far.

I really wanted to love this. Bong Joon-Ho making a dystopian, satirical take on capitalism with Robert Pattinson playing multiple clones? Sounds like a no-brainer. And visually, it slaps! the world-building, design, and cinematography are all top-tier.

Starts out strong with the post-apocalyptic vibes but slowly lost me. I wish they expanded more on the livestream community or the dystopian state of the world instead of just turning into a pretty generic home invasion story.

While I appreciate the homage to the giallo/slasher/satanic panic film aesthetics of the 80’s, something about this just didn’t land for me like how X (2022) and Pearl (2022) did. MaXXXine felt rushed and overproduced, gimmicky to where it feels a bit forced and is ultimately just kinda mid. Easily, my least favorite of the trilogy.

Cruel, gory, gross, violent, gruesome, familiar, creepy, intense, disturbing, dark, nightmarish, grim, brutal, bloody, well-acted, well-made, and unforgiving.
Possessed films are a dime a dozen but this felt fresh with a slight nod to the classics. All of the gore and practical effects are top notch and it doesn’t hold back in the no fucks given department. One of the best horror movies of 2023.
