Reflecting on 2024, and while it was a turbulent year for myself and a lot of people I love and care about, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for the Letterboxd community and our shared love for films.

Grotesque, stylish, original, insane, bloody, tense, thought-provoking, shocking, graphic, well-acted, well-cast, well-edited, well-made, well-scored, well-shot, and unforgettable. 💉
Kinda speechless but holy shit this is wild. Would make a perfect double feature with Sick of Myself (2022) and it goes straight to the #1 spot for 2024.
Disturbing, dark, fascinating, educational, thought-provoking, depressing, well-made, and powerful.
After watching Witches (2024), I got the itch to find more documentaries that actually focused on the history of witches and the witch trials… and holy shit did I find an underrated gem! Only 500 people have logged this on Letterboxd and it’s available to watch on YouTube, so don’t sleep!
It’s hard to fact-check (because winners write history) but this refers to the persecution of witches as the Female Holocaust…
Compelling, powerful, realistic, emotional, depressing, impactful, raw, well-acted, well-cast, well-made, and important.
Another stark reminder of how fucked the American healthcare and pharmaceutical systems truly are.
Bravo Matthew McConaughey and an unrecognizable Jared Leto for their incredible transformations and Oscar-worthy performances.
Stylish, vibrant, grimy, gory, humorous, retro, fun, boring, messy, kinda bland, forgettable, well-acted, and pointless.
While I appreciate the homage to the giallo/slasher/satanic panic film aesthetics of the 80’s, something about this just didn’t land for me like how X (2022) and Pearl (2022) did. MaXXXine felt rushed and overproduced, gimmicky to where it feels a bit forced and is ultimately just kinda mid. Easily, my least favorite of the trilogy.
Kevin Bacon was fun and a lil goofy but all stars…
Cruel, gory, gross, violent, gruesome, familiar, creepy, intense, disturbing, dark, nightmarish, grim, brutal, bloody, well-acted, well-made, and unforgiving.
Possessed films are a dime a dozen but this felt fresh with a slight nod to the classics. All of the gore and practical effects are top notch and it doesn’t hold back in the no fucks given department. One of the best horror movies of 2023.
