Never going to be able to look at Nicolas Cage the same way again. Holy shit he was terrifying.
I avoided all the trailers, so I didn’t really know what I was walking into, but was blown away by everything. Such an unnerving movie watching experience. From the opening scene up until the credits started it was thrilling and terrifying viewing experience. The story feels fresh and the execution of the reveals was perfectly done. The visuals were so shocking and will be embedded in my mind for a long time. The entire look of this film worked in its favor, the way it’s shot and edited helps create this undeniable tension that just gets under your skin immediately and stays with you the entire time.
Maika Monroe gives an unbelievable performance, it’s actually so impressive what she did with this role. And as mentioned before Nicolas Cage gives a performance I will never forget, just terrifying all around. From the voice to the physicality, it all just made me squirm whenever he was on screen.
One of the best horror movies I have seen in a while. And easily one of my favorites of the year. Gonna drag some friends to see this again with, because I just know it will be better with repeat viewings.
