SP-Santa Shrek’s review published on Letterboxd:
Merry Christmas, you filthy animals, and a Happy New Year too. You know how I said earlier in the year that I would do a part 2 to shows that I binged watched in 2022, well it’s hear and I’m now gonna talk about all the shows I binge. Before I start, I was originally going to make this at the end of the year, but sense I had no shows to watch, I’ve decided to make earlier. As for the rules, I can’t be series that have their own Letterboxd page, so you won’t see She-Hulk or something else. With that out of the way, let’s get started.
The Orville: New Horizons: I watch the first episode during the summer, but I took a long break due to other stuff and lack of motivation. Then I watched the rest in December, because I had more time. I did enjoy this season a lot, read my paint drying review on the series for more opinions, and I will give this season of The Orville a 9/10.
The Boys Season 3: I did watch the first two this year, and I watched the new season, and I thought it was amazing. We live in a world where superhero movies have dominated the box office and they have no signs of stopping, because people will go see them more and more due to audiences enjoyment of them. Quality wise, it depends. Some superhero films by Marvel and DC in the 2020s decade so far are pretty good, decent mediocre, one of my favorite movies of all time, or just plain terrible. Marvel movies and shows have been trying so hard to be clever and self aware, which causes them to feel some times pretty underwhelming, like She-Hulk, for example. In the year of 2019, we got so many superhero movies that where successful at the box office like Endgame and No Way Home, but one TV series wanted to say something about this over saturation, its audience, their reliance on representation and female empowerment, and all the other shit, and fuck it all up by tearing them to shreds, and that show is The Boys. This is possibly one of the best TV shows in resent years and one of the best TV shows I've ever seen in my life. The writing is very excellent, blending cynicism and satire very well, and I love how this show just rips superhero tropes to shreds. The characters are amazing and it has one of the most interesting villains in television history. And the film has some pretty good messages about serious issues. It's a show that has something to say about superheroes. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone how loves superheroes and it may change the way you see them. I will give Season 3 a 9/10
His Dark Materials: I’ve only watched one episode for complicated reasons I won’t get into but so far it’s not really good. Giving it a 5/10
Adventure Time: I did watch this when I was young, like with Regular Show and Gumball, and I wanted to revisit it like those shows, and doing so, it’s amazing. I enjoyed a lot of aspects about the like the great writing, the lovable characters, great art style, and interesting lore, but it does have its flaws. There’s some filler episodes that were forgettable but some I did like, and a few hit or miss romance episodes and plots, but other than those, I love this show, and I will give the hole series a 9/10.
Better Call Saul Season 1-5: Now, I was going to watch this series in July, but my dad pressured me into watching it, and so I did, and I liked it. We do learn some cool things about Saul Goodman and the other characters from Breaking Bad. While the show isn’t too engaging, I was engaged for a lot of the time. Overall, if you like Breaking Bad, go watch this show, and I will give this series an 8/10, I hope season 6 gets added to Netflix soon.
Stranger Things Season 4 Part 2: I did enjoy this half of Stranger Things. It was pretty suspenseful and thrilling, and it isn’t really underwhelming, and I’m excited for the next season. Nothing that much to say, and I’m giving this season a 9/10.
Regular Show: I rewatched all of Regular Show after rewatching the first two seasons and the newest season of J. G. Quintel’s other series Close Enough (that’s now gone from HBO Max thanks to the Warner Bros thing), and it’s still amazing. While I did pickup some new problems like the romance arc with Mordecai, it still manages to be amazing thanks to the comedy, storytelling, and character development. Overall, it’s still amazing and I will give the series a 9/10.
Meta Runner The Final Season: I was first interested in this series because I watched a lot of SMG4 back in the day, and I did enjoy the first two seasons. I did watch the final season and it was great. While the series does have its flaws like the bland animation and backgrounds, with the addition of forgettable villains, I does have some solid writing that gives decent storytelling and character. It also does manage to get pretty heartwarming and has some pretty good action. Overall, while I don’t really watch that much of SMG4 anymore because his videos started to get stale for me, I did enjoy this series, and I will give it an 8/10.
South Park: Now, I had I long time fascination this series and watching the hole thing, I really like it. It has some pretty great satire and for a series that went on for a long time, it never lost its quality other than in Season 20. The characters are also pretty great, and I will say Cartman is a changing for an asshole character. I forgot to mention, it’s pretty funny, with the jokes working very well because of their payoff and setup. I have discovered the formula for the jokes. A joke happens then they repeat it over and over, and the more it goes on, the more absurd it gets. There’s actually a pretty good formula. I think Trey and Matt know what they’re doing. Overall, I enjoyed this series, and I do want to rewatch it all someday, and I’m giving this show an 8/10.
Family Guy: Watch the first seven seasons in the Summer of 2021 and continued the rest in August-November of 2022, and not let me tell the show’s quality does get probably worse after each season. Read my paint drying review for more information. 6/10
Rick and Morty Season 6: I actually think this is the best season of Rick and Morty in a while, and I think the writers knew what they’re were doing in this season. While it does have its flaws, I still enjoyed the storytelling and the meta humor that has improved in this season. Nothing much to say. Getting a 7/10.
The Cleveland Show: This was one of the worst shows I have even sit through. I did like it all that much. Read my paint drying review of this series for more. 4/10
Andor season one: I did enjoy this show for its storytelling and action. Nothing much to say. 7/10
American Dad!: I actually like this a lot more than Family Guy. Like what I said in my paint drying review of this series, I think it’s one of those cases where the copycat is better than the show it’s copying from. Read the paint drying review for more. 7/10
That was it. That was all the shows I watched this year. I’m now considering making this annual. That’s all I gotta say. Bye, have a beautiful time.
