Paint Drying

Paint Drying

Okay, I wanted to do a Paint Drying entry like most of the users on this site. I looked for ideas and I saw one by Dylan Gorzen, where he talked about TV shows that he watched in 2021. So I thought I could do something like that but with shows I watched.

Here are the shows that I watched and binged watched so far this year. I won’t be including Cowboy Bebop, Moon Knight or Obi-Wan, because they have Letterboxd pages of there own. With that out of the way, let’s get on with it.

The Book of Boba Fett: Personally for me, I like it. Yes, the first 4 episodes aren’t great, but the quality improves when The Mandalorian shows up. As some people pointed out, it feels like The Mandalorian season 3. This show does a good job at explaining how Boba survive the Sarlacc. They brought a “dead character” back brilliantly, unlike The Emperor in The Rise of Skywalker. I’m giving this show a 8/10. I wonder what will season 2 be like.

Black Mirror: I have entries in my diary featuring Black Mirror episodes, since they have pages on this site alone. I want to talk about Black Mirror as a series. It’s amazing. A lot of the episodes have brilliant social commentary, like for example Nosedive. I think about that episode a lot. It’s world portrayed in the episode is unsettling and disturbing as a concept. Charlie Brooker did say this show was meant to worry people and I think Nosedive does it well. My personal favorite is Fifteen Million Merits, that episode is haunting as it is beautiful. 9/10

Rick and Morty Season 5: This season for Rick and Morty was okay, to say the least. It does continue the problems from season 3 and 4 like Flanderization and trying too hard to be meta. This season of Rick and Morty is getting a 6/10.

Disenchantment season 4: It was great. There’s a lot of stuff that’s interesting in this season, like some character backstories and pretty good reveals. I won’t spoil it but it’s pretty crazy. I would like to mention that I HATE cliffhanger endings.

Close Enough: I mentioned this series in a few of my reviews. In case if you don’t know what it is, it’s a HBO Max original series (or Netflix original if you live else where) created by J. G. Quintel, the same guy who created Regular Show, one of my all time favorite shows. I did watch this when it first came out. I rewatched the first two seasons out of boredom. I also watched the new third season, and I can’t wait for the fourth season. I’ll tell you what I think about the series as a hole. Imagine BoJack Horseman, Regular Show, and Family Guy all mushed together, then you get this show. It's funny and really entertaining from beginning to end in each segment of every episode. I will say it does have pop culture references like Family Guy, but I do enjoy most of the references. It's also similar to Regular Show with its art style, storytelling, and voice actor, and it has the same setting as BoJack Horseman, which I think is similar to Regular Show in terms of its world. This show is pretty much for Regular Show fans who watched the series when they were 6, but have now turned to watching shows like Family Guy and South Park. It also has the inappropriate humor of Family Guy, but without any incest jokes, and kept at a minimum without relying on them too much. If you love Regular Show and now watch adult cartoons, then this is the show for you. 8/10. The series is a must watch. Also this show inspired me to watch The Cable Guy.

The Boys season 1 and 2: My dad recommended it to me and I thought this show was great. It’s pretty violent, foul mouthed, and sexual but it’s writing is amazing. 9/10. Can’t wait for season 3 this year.

Love, Death & Robots: I wanted to watch this after watching Black Mirror, and I liked this series. The art styles are different for each episode, and it makes the experience pretty fun. 7/10. Go watch it if you haven’t. I also watch the new season this year.

Peacemaker: This show was pretty good. Not a hole lot to say.

Diabolical (an animated anthology spinoff of The Boys): After watching The Boys, I watched this and I thought it was decent. Not great but decent. 6/10. I would recommend it if you like The Boys.

Smiling Friends: Yeah, this is the series that the internet was talking about. It is funny as hell. It personally reminds me of The Amazing World of Gumball and Rick and Morty. 8/10. Go watch.

Castlevania: I honestly didn’t finish this show. I finished the first two seasons but I didn’t watch the next 2. I just got kind of bored, but I will watch the rest if I get bored one day. 7/10.

Gravity Falls: I did watch this show when I was younger and I wanted to revisit the series. Upon doing so, it might be one of the best tv shows of the century and one of the best shows I personally have ever seen. There's just something about the series that work so well. I personally don't know what it is but it's so good. The writing, animation, comedy, and characters all land so amazing and pretty flawlessly. 10/10. Has one of the best finales to a series ever, and I’ve been listening to the series finale end credits theme a lot lately. The theme just warms my heart every time when I listen to it. Go watch it if you haven’t.

Stranger Things season 4 part 1: I liked this season so far. I won’t tell you what happens in this season. Find out for yourselves. 9/10. Can’t wait for part 2.

That’s all for the year so far. Hope you guys liked it. Bye, have a beautiful time.
