For a bit there I thought this was close to or at least on par with the original but in the 2nd act it starts to really show the issues of the film. First, this movie isn't nearly as rowdy as it thinks it is. When you first see the bar in the original film, it isn't just fighting. It's a bad place all around. This bar seems really calm compared to the Double Deuce even when people start fighting. Jake Gyllenhaal is alright in this, but everyone else is eh to bad. McGregor is atrocious like borderline comedy acting. The ending was also a miss for me. I like hkw in the original it becomes a town vs villian moment, this is missing that. Sequel bait with the father character is also a bit on the nose.
Still some positives. The fighting choreography is much better than I thought it would be. Camera work has some good moments as well, I really really like the shot through the chain link fence that made the bar look like a ufc arena. That was really creative. The jokes for the most part were funny as well.
Worth watching but definitely set your expectations low
