Chaotic nonsensical violence shown through a dizzying lens, a narrative that digs no further than the surface, woefully spoon-fed dialogue, and a delightfully idiotic Conor McGregor performance—a load of meaningless fun! I can’t believe that I enjoyed this. Couldn’t stop laughing during every ridiculous fight sequence. It's too long and sometimes lacks direction, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a jolly decent time. Definitely deserved to get a theatrical release, though. What a silly film.
So to get slapped by Jake Gyllenhaal you just need to create a mess in a bar? Sign me up! (Please, Mr. Gyllenhaal, don't break the hyoid bone in my throat)
Jake has the sweetest disposition. He’ll beat you up and then drive you to the hospital.
jake gyllenhaal please go back to playing weird lil freaks! your eyes are still so full of untold horrors and dread, i know you can still do it!
definitely can't remember the last time i saw a movie try this hard to be Road House, so that's something.
Road House became a cult classic because it was fun to watch on cable. None of it was hard to understand — or at least none of it made any less sense — if you flipped to it halfway through. No matter where you started or stopped watching it, you were guaranteed to see some thrills, some violence, some sex appeal, and probably a couple laughs, intentional or otherwise.
While the cable TV movie ecosystem seems to be going extinct, the new Road House would have thrived in it as well. This is the kind of consistently entertaining movie you could happily watch 100 times without ever actively intending to watch it twice. By its conclusion, it accumulates the atmosphere of a great bar; a place you go less to get drunk than to soak in the vibes of the music and the regulars. It is so much better than it has any right to be.

Jake is charismatic! Conor is goofy! It falls apart on a script level and loses some of its juice halfway through, but it was never going to live up to 89 version anyways.
Genuinely think I would have liked it more if I saw it in a crowded theater.
