This is an excellent movie — better than I remember from the first time I watched it years ago. At times it walks right up to the edge of credibility, poised to become ridiculous, but deftly steps back each time. Best of all, it brings its story together in the last act with a final satisfying caper and wraps it all up in a reasonable way.
There are small things to criticize, but the whole package is so satisfying it’s not worth lingering on. I was not entirely comfortable with the rich people maybe (?) burning up a Renoir and chuckling about it. The very end — varying from the original film — leaves a slightly unpleasant Hollywood aftertaste. Still, these are debatable missteps, not really flaws.
