Due to an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of Deetz return to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is once again turned upside down when her daughter Astrid discovers the old model of the town and the door to the afterlife is accidentally opened.
After 36 years, Tim Burton follows up his first big hit, and my favorite of his works, with the wonderfully titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. And the movie? As wonderful as the title.
With his delightfully bizarre and vivid depiction of the afterlife, Burton offers tons of humor and quirky charm. The story is as chaotic as last time with some greatly entertaining and in the end really well connected threads. It doesn't feel like Burton has had this much fun since the original.
Michael Keaton is as amazing in the title role in 2024 as he was in 88. The character is as funny and unpleasant as last time with his strange, uninhibited behavior and rapid fire mouth. Also back are both Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara, both as outstanding and wonderful as usual. All the new additions, including Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe, fit the bill perfectly, especially Ortega who just continues to show what an outstanding actor she is. Everyone looks like they had as much fun making the movie as I did watching it.
Aesthetically, the film is a slight upgrade from the previous one. The shot composition, lighting and camera work are excellent, and the green screen looks far, far better. The wonderful practical effects, environments, make-up and costumes return and make an already really fun movie that little bit more fun. It is a delight for both eyes and soul.
The music fits perfectly, with a score as lovely as last time and a number of wonderful songs.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice definitely lives up to all the expectations I had. The story is absolutely wonderful and filled with the same chaotic energy and bizarre humor as last time, the cast is phenomenal, with Keaton in top form among the fantastic returning and added actors, the aesthetics are wonderful in every way and the music as well. Burton's best since the original from 88! I loved it! Perfect movie to watch in cinemas now during the fall! Highly recommended!
