olivia wilde’s booksmart is exactly what the world and the coming of age genre needs right now and i can wholeheartedly say that it is one of the best films of the year and one of my new all-time favourites. beanie feldstein and kaitlyn dever work perfectly together and their on-screen friendship as molly and amy was so pure, honest and heartwarming. what a quality duo. billie lourd, noah galvin, diana silvers, jessica williams and the rest of the cast were also undeniably brilliant in their respective roles and brought so much to the story.
it makes me so happy and proud to know that this masterpiece was not only directed by a woman, but was written by FOUR women. that is such an incredible achievement and makes a lot of sense when you consider the amount of female energy in the film. the direction and script were absolutely phenomenal and there were countless moments that had me cry-laughing in my seat. the editing and soundtrack were also amazing and so on point. i really couldn’t help but love every single aspect.
it’s fresh, hilarious, charming, energetic, authentic, special and the perfect film in my eyes. i had the most wonderful time watching it and i genuinely cannot wait to experience it all again next week with my best friend !! 💛📚
