A glorious case of expecting one thing and getting another and it’s better for it. The movie presents itself as an isolated, wronged man pushing back against a racist local police force but the film reveals that he’s not completely isolated and so our First Blood riff turns into a twisty neo-noir with shades of Chinatown. Magnificently shot and with great performances this desperately needed a theatrical run. One of my favorites of the year.
