Longlegs has all the makings of conventionally great horror: atmosphere, mystery, a memorable villain. I can understand its popularity, but I found it to be lacking in substance. I understand "substance" is subjective, but there are some honestly baffling decisions made by the way of story structuring, plot, and dialogue. The opening scene has Nic Cage literally walk onscreen and say "I got my longlegs on today." I'm not sure how I'm supposed to take this one. It could've been high class camp if it let up on itself just a little bit.
With that being said, it was a fun experience in theaters! I'm glad it's having a strong opening. Really goes to show what you can do with great marketing.
