"It's, like, a long dream. And so dark. A world of dark. Like, a Nowhere, between here and there."
So it turns out adding Satan to Se7en works really well. Oz Perkins fourth horror film (that I know of anyway) is basically a 90's serial killer film with a nice Satanic flair. Maika Monroe does solid work in the Clarice Starling role while Cage, of course, slays as the titular Long Legs. Blair Underwood comes back from cinema banishment to lend a hand as the older mentor agent character that disappears in the third act until needed for the finale. Also like most 90's serial killer thrillers, Long Legs has a final act twist up its sleeve. One that is telegraphed as long as you pay attention. None of that is really the point though, the point is Perkins makes it all work. The tension builds slowly, shit is appropriately disturbing, our hero both intelligent while remaining a step behind, the narrative fits together and the ending is darkly ambiguous. Long Legs is almost certainly the best horror-serial killer flick since Se7en, and possibly since The Silence of the Lambs.
