My first film raffle pick. Not exactly sure why I haven’t seen this one before as its extremely catered to my desires. But I’m glad I was given that extra push to watch it. So thank you! I love Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, their chemistry is so good. I believe that La La Land is, at its core, just a beautiful love story. Love for film, love for jazz, and love in that traditional sense. It feels like a total homage to older hollywood aesthetics and people who follow their dreams. The year that this takes place is left ambiguous because this is a story that could exist at any time because the concept of pursuing your dreams is timeless. Also combined with that beautiful soundtrack. Another Day of Sun is a clear standout and an instant classic. I think I prefer this one to Whiplash. I have yet to see where First Man and Babylon fit on that ranking. I think this film could have felt a lot more generic and in some ways it is, but I think that Damien Chazelle does a great job in balancing the realistic and whimsical elements of the film. So, thank you for the suggestion!
