And girl you make me feel so insecure
    You're so beautiful and pure
Why must you be unkind and tell me I'm not your kind?

  • Eight Postcards from Utopia

    Eight Postcards from Utopia

    ★★★

Exhausting but hilarious montage of advertisements after the fall of Nicolae Ceaușescu. It's a bizarre nature of the content by itself is already silly enough to make an entertaining found-footage, but the editing elevates the presentation, making it a wacky weird jumble of weird clips. The selection clearly serves as a study of post-communist Romanian society and economical transition.
Unfortunately the lenght of the movie was too extended for me to find it more enjoyable than I actually did, and it inevitably ends up feeling a bit tiring, at least in my case.

  • Conclave

    Conclave

    ★★★★

What first surprised me of Conclave was how tense and anxiety-provoking it was, given the fact that it's no ordinary thriller. On the technical side Edward Berger's film is indeed phenomenal, with each frame being a gorgeous composition of colors. The cast is also outstanding, especially Ralph Fiennes, who carried quite a lot, even if everyone else's done a great job as well.
To say more, I've never seen such a portrayal of the importance of power in the Church.…

  • Sleep #2

    Sleep #2

    ★★★½

Yes, I have watched one full hour of a MacBook recording showing tapes from the webcams around the grave of the revolutionary artist Andy Warhol.
What is there of more relaxing than observing the eternal rest of the creator of pop art? Looking at all the people, all the animals that pass by. Day, night, rain, snow.
I can't really talk about about the movie that inspired the title of Sleep #2, though, since I haven't watched it, and I…

  • I Stand Alone

    I Stand Alone

    ★★★½

Noé feature debut is a mad assault to the audience. A totally experimental film that pushes the bounds of narrative (which will be done again at its never-reached maximum in Irréversible) through bizarre camera movements and unusual textual interludes. The energic sequel to Carne is not only a hundred times more disturbing, but also quite an interesting look into the mind of a disturbed individual, accentuated on showing how hopelessly can a human end up living.
    Although definitely crazier, I…

    Touki Bouki

    ★★★★½

Not everyone is able to fully immerse themselves in their dreams, to touch them. We are still anchored to reality with our whole body, perhaps due to our responsibilities. We should consider ourselves lucky that we can still dream.
Mambéty's revolutionary film is among tshe most important works of cinema ever in the history of Africa. An alternation of colorful and disturbing images that go build up not only a tale about dreams, but also a commentary on migration and…

  • The Invitation

    The Invitation

    ★★★

Although The Invitation clearly wants to be a tense slow-burn thriller, it's just a cool attempt at making the audience feel nervous. While it's undeniable that the entire subject around the film is quite interesting, and the ending is definitely unexpected, it doesn't manage to completely deliver what wants to make the audience feel and it ends up being also occasionally boring instead of anxiety-provoking. It's still worth watching, some people will enjoy it as I did, albeit I see also someone possibly disliking the movie because of its technical and writing flaws, that I personally overlooked.

  • The Menu

    The Menu

    ★★★

The Menu is a tense and amusing thriller satire about the class struggle. I found myself giggling quite a few times in front of what was going on screen, characterized with a dark but clever humor that is always effective, without flying over its shocking content. Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes are great in here. I definitely had a good time watching this movie, although it's surely one of those that aren't gonna be remembered for a long time, it's surely worth a watch.
