You don’t have a good time watching this I’m not sure you can enjoy film.
There’s a lot to juggle in the sequel, and for the most part it’s done in solid hands.
Burton has really grown in the last 10 years, evolving in style. Clearly the work on Wednesday has made a difference. He’s found a fresh take on things and moved away from the overly heavy CGI world of things like Alice in Wonderland. He seems to have found a nice middle ground from his early work.
We also have a cast that is so willing to play in this world. And that makes or breaks this sort of thing.
We are also treated to a sequel that isn’t just Easter eggs. And when they are nods, they for the most part are deep cuts. So you gotta be a nerd to get them.
And if you don’t like them, maybe you’re too much of a nerd and need to calm the fuck down.
Elfman brings another killer score. Also filled with deep cuts ( Monica Bellucci likes a picture of Keaton and the string that’s played is the exact one that played when Michelle Phieffer likes Keatons face in Batman Returns )
Keaton is also back with a performance that’s shows that he’s not just one of the best dramatic actors of all time but one of the funniest.
Keaton has comedy chops that are on par with any of the great comedic actors.
Bonus points for the music numbers.
