Beetlejuice has been my foil for years as the scariest movie to 10 year old me, and it sorta feels surreal seeing a sequel all these years later. I’m pretty tired of legacy sequels and i have gone on a “Hollywood is out of ideas. They reskin and resell us the same product over, and over. And over again.” many times to my coworkers, usually not met with the same cynicism. Despite that, this was a good time at the theater.
Doesn’t feel like studio-obligated-remake Tim Burton like Dumbo did(even if I actually enjoyed that movie) and there’s enough meat on the bones to warrant a sequel. Keaton brings the juice just as he did in 88, really it’s crazy how 30+ years later him and Burton nail the comedic timing and rhythm.
Not Top Gun 2: More Gunns but still a solid sequel, even if you can see the seams of the 10+ year development hell it went through.
So… Batman, Beetlejuice….. is Keaton gonna reprise his role in Mr. Mom next?
