Although not as good as the original (though I haven’t rewatched the original film in a while) it’s still pretty decent.
This film truly embraces its own wacky style and has fun with itself, which… is what I like to see from Tim Burton.
To be honest, my feelings on this movie are kinda similar to my feelings on Alien Romulus. I really enjoyed the presentation of the film, but the writing definitely could’ve used some improving.
I didn’t find the new characters that interesting (besides Willem Dafoe’s character of course). The movie sometimes did that annoying legacy sequel thing where it “needs to remind the audience how great the original was.” Also, the storyline itself just wasn’t as refined as the story was in the original film.
But overall, I had a good time with this, and I think everyone making the movie had a good time with it too.
Side note: I found it really funny how the film dodged the whole Jeffery Jones scandal thing. I won’t spoil how the film did it, but it was pretty amusing.
