Robb’s review published on Letterboxd:
Doesn’t manage to fully reach the heights of the opening scene again, but The Letter is still a good film. It’s not really a mystery, since there’s no mystery from the very beginning who killed him. It’s also pretty clear from Bette Davis attitude that she’s entitled and full of herself, and doesn’t care at all that he’s dead. It’s a nice slice of noir, but man that yellowface really stands out in a bad way, and it lingers over the whole film in a terrible way.
Really impressive visually, especially the lighting, and an uncompromising ending. Flawed, but with real flair.
