As someone unfamiliar with the musical or the book this film is based on, I didn't know what to think about this film. But I was willing to give this film a chance with the talent involved and the positive reception. Now that I've seen the film, I can say that it lives up to the hype.
The production of this film is outstanding. The dance choreography is solid, the sets and costumes are well-made, and the CGI is impressive- especially for the animals. And of course, the song numbers are great.
The cast also carried this film. Ariana Grande had chemistry with everyone as Galinda, Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp brought out someone awkward and vulnerable, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible had a commanding presence, and Jeff Goldblum was perfect casting as The Wizard. Overall, this is a great experience that's worth seeing in theaters and I am looking forward to Part 2.
