There's a bit in this movie where it begins to snow through a skylight. We work our way outside where it softly, gently blankets the office park for angels. It's the sort of feeling that only this medium could give you. It's the sort of feeling that flips a switch that makes Liam cry.

There's so much in that image. Way too much. Suddenly I'm thinking about how many snowfalls I'll have left in my life. Suddenly I'm realizing that…

If you think this movie is too broad and wet, I wonder when the last time you saw Gladiator was. Movies do not pack greater bredth and moisture than that. And that one didn't even have Denzel.

Paul Mescal is not miscast and he's certainly not giving a poor performance - it's just not Russel Crowe. The deficit of movie star charisma is filled out by Washington and Pascal serviceably. The closer performance comp would be Andy Serkis as an ape.

Beau is Afraid of a Couch

A gentle reminder that Ewan McGregor is one of the best when not doing an American accent.

The rare Kaufman-esq movie I have any patience for that wasn't made by Charlie Kaufman. It embraces his style - quotidian surrealism, twee score, relentless miscommunication - warts and all, and hits it over the head with a neon sign that says "LiMiNaL sPaCe."

Wants to have its cake (fashionable nihilism) and eat it too (earnesty), and…

Aggressively my cup of tea. Whoever made this has been vacationing in my brain. If every movie looked like this I would never leave the theater.

There's a greater sense of body and touch in this film than a brothel.

Maybe it's that Tiff halo, fanned by sleep deprivation and a late evening PSL, but maybe also movies appear to you exactly when it's time to see them. I will remember today.
