I was excited about returning to the theatres to see Venom and Eddie do their thing one final time and it didn’t disappoint. It’s got its charm back and I was definitely entertained throughout, it makes for a solid conclusion to the venom trilogy.
I enjoyed the new characters and I’m happy we didn’t get another movie of Anne and Dan shoved down our throat. Instead we get a fresh load of characters including the impressive Rhys Ifans who we know as Lizard and Luna Lovegood’s father in two other well established franchises.
That reminds me it is funny we get two actors taking on roles of new characters in the Marvel universe; Rhys Ifans and Chiwetelu Ejiofor, and after seeing Venom in the MCU at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, really who knows where all these characters stand in the multiverse(it’s a mess).
Whether there was a Harry Potter call back or not I’m calling it how I heard it and the quote from Rhys Ifans character; ‘I know a dark force when I see one’ is surely a call back to his time in the Harry Potter movies.
The visuals were top again, I enjoyed alot of the action and the plane sequence with the venom parachute looked amazing in iMax. Venom taking form in all of the different animals was a cool addition and kept visuals fresh, the venom horse and frog were both fun to see.
I’m happy we see Mrs Chen again even if it is only briefly, this time she’s in Vegas winning on the slots in a sparkly red dress, it’s good to see winners win. It’s followed by a top three scene from the whole trilogy imo, Mrs Chen and Venom sharing a dance whilst listening to Dancing Queen is full on groovy vibes and just the sort of scene I was after.
The final battle was okay, I did like seeing all the symbiotes doing their thing but they all kind of bow out in dire fashion. Venom was badass though his big moment was rewarding and thought the scene he shared with Eddie was impactful. I’m not sure what the ending means for the future of the saga, I thought it was going to be over but it leaves some questions open.
Overall I’m happy with this conclusion and whether it’s truly the end or not I’m not sure but I hope it is. Eddie and Venoms little montage was a great closing moment showing some charming scenes of there friendship over the course of the movie it brought a smile to my face and this trilogy will definitely be a comfort trilogy, it’s not the greatest in the world but it entertains and sticks the landing with a friendship for the age’s.
